As January came and left, the year is past the entrance door, into 2020 and the first order in the agenda is ZonaMaco. The awaited and most acclaimed art fair in Latin America is here and will open its doors to the public from the 5th until Sunday 9th of February, taking place in the dynamic City of Mexico. One year more before its officials to come of age, the fair is presenting its 17th editions under Director Zëleika García and the creative guidance of Creative Director Tania Ragaso.
For the first time, this year the different sections of the fair will come together under the same roof, providing an encompassing space where visitors of all walks of life can immerse themselves in the tides of the fair, bewitched by the creative extravaganza. The segments Contemporary Art, Design, Salon and Foto will live within Centro Banamex, with the addition of new segments such as “Sur” (South) which will revise the work produced in the southern countries of Latin America, shedding light on obscure artists of the region as well as awarding an artist residency to a female artist participating in the fair on behalf of Casa Wabi.
The display will showcase over 210 international and local galleries, as well welcoming new galleries from Latin America, including La Balsa Arte from Bogotá and La Rebelde from Guatemala, which will rub shoulders with local big names such as kurimanzutto, OMR and PROYECTOSMONCLOVA.
ZonaMaco not only attracts art lovers and enthusiast, but it casts its net to a wider audience which, makes the Art World go around: collectors! Among the first ones to arrive at the Mexican cosmopolitan city are representatives from international museums, including the Los Angeles’s MOCA, Miami’s PAMM and the MALBA in Buenos Aires. Nevertheless, the fair is sure to see a distinguished line-up of high rollers, as well as the eager 30-40 target group of art-loving young professionals, eager to pay their new art piece in instalments.
Among the many parallel events, there will be conferences offered by a varied group of experts, as well as performances by Anaconda and book editorials. Be sure to keep your eye out for this event, even if it’s à la distance preparing for the other things yet to come in 2020.
