Three unique art spaces to visit in South America
Posted on Jul - 09 - 2019
The south is a land that feels sometimes geographically isolated; however, South America is a land rich in creativity and artistic zeal, spawning bohemian hubs where artists come together to create, engage with buyers, exhibit their artworks or to meet with like-minded people. Here are three places among South America that you should visit if you're in look for a little bit of regional experience, unique to their setting and community of artists.
Galeria Patio del Liceo, Buenos Aires, Argentina
There is no place like this tucked away refuge in the middle of furious Buenos Aires. Set on one of the busiest streets of the city, the inconspicuous doors open to a courtyard where a community of artists, producers, and many other eccentric characters coexist in as a colorful community of creators. Anything to satisfy any taste can be found in this place, from a bar to comic books, to art galleries and studios, especially art spaces for artists to explore and experiment, protected within the colorful walls el patio.
Casa Triângulo, São Paulo, Brazil
One of the oldest entries in this list, Casa Triângulo has engaged with the Paulista art scene since the late 1980s, and its legacy is felt in the city’s cultural history. The progressive gallery's strategy has been both to infiltrate the international art scene as well as to nurture local artists, providing a space for experimentation. Although maybe not an independent hub for artists to come together, the leading contemporary art gallery has served as a binder for the region’s artists, providing them also with international exposure.
Lugar a dudas, Cali, Colombia
This independent hub, a ‘room for doubts’ is more of a laboratory than a gallery, here artists-in-residency programs serve as a platform in which artists can experiment and express themselves in any way that they want. Their experimentations materialize in works of art, performances, or installations that fuse with their environment and invite the spectators to join in the creative dialogues. Space also offers other activities like film screenings, screenings, exhibitions and workshops and has over the years ignited Cali’s cultural scene.
