February is the month of love, but also the month of art in Mexico, in the shape of one of the most popular and successful art fairs in Latin America, Zona Maco. Today, February 7th is the first day of the fair, which runs until Saturday. This year the most sought-after event presents its fifteenth edition with a selection of over 130 galleries from 27 different countries across America, Europe and Asia centered in the Centre Citibanamex.
The event is divided in various sections including the Main Section, New Proposals, ZonaMaco Sur and Modern Art. The Main Section comprises 70 galleries chosen under the selection committee comprised of Stefania Bortolami (Bortolami Gallery, New York), Ben Loveless (Galerie Nordenhake, Stockholm/Berlin), Patricia Ortiz Monasterio (Galería OMR, Mexico City) and Fernando Mesta (House of Gaga, Mexico City). The varied selection is divided between Contemporary Art Galleries, Design, Antiquities, and Photography. Among the galleries exhibiting, the public will be able to find big names like Gagosian, Marian Goodman, Sean Kelly, Pace Gallery and David Zwirner from New York; kurimanzutto, House of Gaga, Parque Galería, OMR, Proyectosmonclova from Mexico City and more. Among the ranks is Galería Enrique Guerrero from Mexico City and this year the gallery will be showing the work of Guatemalan artist Franco Arocha, one of Scoop Art’s artists, whose chromatic and subtle compositions will hang among an array of talented artists.
